An ADPLL-Centric Bluetooth Low-Energy Transceiver with 2.3mW Interference-Tolerant Hybrid-Loop Receiver in 65nm CMOS

The proposed Bluetooth Low-Energy (BLE) transceiver (TRX) utilizes a wide loop-bandwidth low-power fractional-N all-digital PLL (ADPLL) as a central component. A single-channel demodulation method is adopted to cut down the analog circuit area and the power consumption while keeping a high interference rejection ratio. The dynamic-range enhanced ADPLL-based analog-to-digital converter greatly improves the receiver (RX) sensitivity and interference tolerance. This work achieves RX power consumption of 2.3mW, which is the lowest among the state-of-the-art works, with -94dBm sensitivity.
