A Constant Amplitude Scheme for OFDM over Wireless Channels

This report proposes a constant-amplitude modulation scheme for orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) over wireless channels. To alleviate a high peak-to-average ratio (PAPR) of OFDM, the proposed modulation scheme divides an OFDM signal into two constant-amplitude signals that are transmitted at different timing. On the receiver side, combining these two signals regenerates the original OFDM signal, which can be considered to propagate through wireless channels. As a conventional constant-amplitude modulation scheme, the constant envelope OFDM (CE-OFDM) scheme transforms the OFDM signal into a phase modulation signals. To compare between the proposed and conventional schemes, computer simulations are conducted. It is demonstrated that the proposed scheme is superior to CE-OFDM in both the bandwidth and bit error rate (BER) performance.
