Via-hole Arrangement for Bandwidth Extension of Planar Microstrip-to-Waveguide Transition

Microstrip-to-waveguide transition is a key component in millimeter-wave RF systems. However, the conventional planar transitions have significant disadvantages of narrow frequency bandwidth. Therefore, a novel design technique of planar transition with a simple via-hole arrangement is proposed. As the influence of the holes on the coupled field, the bandwidth is extended due to the appearance of double resonance.
