An ultra-low-power digital GMSK demodulator for sub-GHz IoT applications

Sub-GHz bands system can achieve lower power consumption and longer communication range than 2.4GHz bands system, which is popular in nowadays IoT development. Additionally, GMSK modulation has narrow-band spectral occupancy and better BER performance against other digital modulations. However, GMSK demodulation suffers from higher inter-symbol interference due to the Gaussian filter in modulation. In this work, a coherent demodulation circuit based on costas loop and one-bit difference is presented, which has good power efficiency and low BER.
