Node Degree Based Reliable Service Function Chain Provisioning in Software-Defined Networking

Network function virtualization (NFV) and Software-Defined Networking (SDN) are promising technologies for next generation networks. Service function chain (SFC) is a serial of ordered set of network functions for processing traffic flows. One of problem of SFC in SDN and NFV environment is how to provision bandwidth and computation resources for VNFs in SFC and how to route traffic flow thorough these ordered VNFs so that the resources can be utilized efficiently while improving the reliability. In this paper, we focus on the reliability of SFC provisioning by utilizing the number of node degree based on layered graphs for placing VNFs of SFC distributedly. The results of our evaluation shows that our scheme can avoid to deploying multiple VNFs on the same nodes to prevent SFC from single-point failure.
