On the Minimum Cost to Modify Source Sequences

In this paper, we consider a cost to modify an original source sequence to another sequence, where we want to ensure that the statistical property of the original sequence and the modified sequence satisfies a given desired property. To this end, we introduce the encoder that observes the original sequence and uniform random number of limited size and outputs the modified sequence. Then, by using the information spectrum method, we clarify the minimum cost between the original sequence and the modified sequence using the encoder, where the cost is defined as a non-negative real-valued function of these sequences.
