A Programmable Sensor-Independent Interface Technology for Trillion Sensors Era

The Internet of Things (IoT) and the advances in CMOSMEMS sensors are the keys to various new applications. Such an increase in the variety of applications requires a programmable hardware that is reconfigurable, flexible and expandable for manufacturing and development cost reduction. In this paper, a programmable sensor-independent readout circuit that is implemented in 180nm CMOS is proposed. The circuit can be reconfigured to interface resistive, capacitive, current producing, and voltage producing sensors that can be directly or capacitively interfaced to its terminals. Therefore, this work serves as a step towards realizing a universal sensor interface
