Experimental Evaluation of a Virtual Overlay Network On Top Of Dynamic Topology Reformation in Wi-Fi Peer-to-Peer Networks

Device to device (D2D) communication has drawn a lot of research interest in recent times owing to resurrected interest in M2M communication paradigm because of large number of portable smart devices. For instance, content sharing among crowd at places of public gathering like airport, railway stations, stadium etc. or traffic information exchange among vehicles at traffic crossings can be achieved by P2P communication without overloading the cellular network. Wi-Fi P2P or Wi-Fi Direct is a recent industry standard for secure and high speed communication between devices. This paper introduces an experimental evaluation of a virtual overlay network on top of dynamic topology reformation among multiple separated Wi-Fi P2P groups. This enables direct socket communication (like SSH) between any two nodes regardless of the separation in their physical networks.
