Experiment on Recognition of 3D Objects in Virtual Environment with Haptic Sense

In this paper, we carry out QoE assessment to investigate how much correctly recognize 3D objects with haptic sense in an object recognition system. In each stimulus of the assessment, each subject tries to recognize a randomly-presented 3D object, which is invisible although it exists in the virtual space, by touching it with a haptic interface device, and he/she answers the object’s name. We measure the time taken for the answer and the number of correct answers for each object. As a result, we find that objects with similar characteristics have low percentage of correct answers.
