Detection limit of OR-based odor sensor using lock-in fluorescent instrumentation

We have developed a measurement system based on optical fluorescent measurement technique for olfactory receptor (OR) based odor sensor. The OR-based sensor has potential for realizing odor sensor with high sensitivity and selectivity. Although our sensing system detects the fluorescence, it is very weak compared with ambient light. Thus, we have developed a lock-in measurement system to detect the signal buried under the ambient light. The system is capable of detecting the odorant concentration down to sub-μM level. This paper presents the experiments on sensing detection limit of our measurement system.
