Proactive Route Guidance System based on Vehicle Ranking

There are many route guidance services provided by various companies, aiming at mitigating traffic congestion. However, existing route guidance services do not attempt to actively prevent congestion and they are only reactive solutions. Besides, the same guidance is provided to all vehicles on a road at a certain moment according to the drivers' queries, which could simply shift congestion from one place to another instead of truly alleviating traffic congestion on the system scale. In this paper, we propose a proactive route guidance system to overcome the disadvantages of the existing systems. Simulation results confirmed that the proposed system successfully reduces average travel time compared to existing systems.
