Modified Printer Driver to Improve Conductivity of Ink-jet Printed Silver Ink Pattern by Over-Printing

Ink-jet printing using commercially available silver ink has been proposed recently, which contributed in fast prototyping of electrical circuits or sensors. However, using default setting of an ink- jet printer will just help to print not so complex circuit. With- out controlling the printing process, it is hard to improve the performance of printed circuit/pattern. For example, the sheet resistance of printed pattern, which was reportedly about 0.12 ohm per square(Ω/□), has limited the performance and the usage range of this technology. In this paper, we realized over-printing by modifying the open source driver named Gutenprint which can be used in many ink-jet printer brands. According to our measurement results, the sheet resistance of ten times overprinted pattern was successfully decreased to 0.043Ω/□.
