Application of Geostatistical Techniques for RSSI Spatial Interpolation

Techniques such as trilateration have been used along with RSSI, TDOA etc. for localization in outdoor scenarios, but may be unreliable for densely urban scenarios where many obstacles exist. Fingerprint-based localization may be advantageous in these scenarios. Location fingerprints cannot be collected from all areas due to time and physical constraints. One approach to solve this problem is to perform spatial interpolation on the measured fingerprints to estimate the fingerprints at an arbitrary location. In this paper, we compare a technique called Ordinary Kriging, which is a commonly used technique in the field of geostatistics, with several other popular techniques.
