Novel Picosecond Width-tuning NRZ-DPSK-to-RZ-DPSK Conversion Using a Raman Amplification Compressor and HNLF-Based Switch

All-optical modulation format conversion is a key technology for future high-speed transparent optical networks, which could employ different bit rates and formats according to the network scales between wavelength-division-multiplexing (WDM) and optical time-division multiplexing (OTDM) systems. Differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) has become the format of choice for long-haul optical transmission systems compared to on-off keying (OOK). In previous published work , picosecond width-tunable converted RZ-OOK pulse trains have been accomplished by using the same scheme. In this paper, we proposed and experimentally demonstrate, for the first time, an all-optical format conversion of NRZ-DPSK-to-RZ-DPSK with picosecond width-tunability.
