Outage Capacity of a 2-hop OFDMA Virtual Cellular Network Using a Genetic Resource Allocation Scheme

In order to augment the data transmission rate without increasing the transmission power, a multi-hop virtual cellular network(VCN) has been proposed [1]. The authors of [2] have proposed a resource allocation scheme based on genetic algorithm (RAGA) for a 2-hop OFDMA VCN. In [2], the ergodic channel capacity was the metric used to evaluate the performance of the VCN when RAGA is applied. Ergodic channel capacity being an averaging metric does not provide enough insight on the practical performance of the VCN. Therefore, this paper studies the outage channel capacity per mobile terminal (MT) of the VCN using RAGA to shed light on the practical performance of the VCN. This study compares the outage capacity of the VCN with that of the single hop network (SHN). Brief descriptions of the system model used and of RAGA are presented. Simulation results are discussed.
