Downlink Transmission Power Reduction for Dense Small Cell Deployment

Small cell deployment is one of the key technologies to provide high user throughput for 3GPP Release 12. And small cells will be deployed as a cluster in area with high traffic load such as shopping mall. But with the increased number of small cells in one cluster, the interference from neighboring small cells will be increased significantly and the SINR (Signal Interference to Noise Ratio) will be degraded largely. The SINR in dense small cell deployment is reduced by about 10 dB compared to that of sparse small cell deploement. In order to reduce the interference in dense small cell deployment, downlink transmission power reduction of small cell was proposed in this paper. Simulation results show that transmission power reduction method can provide high cell edge throughput with no loss of average user throuhgput.
